Actually, I read this back in November. I got my hands on an advance reader and decided to give it a whirl. I haven't read any Bear in years, but I'm a big fan of his older science fiction novels.
Hull Zero Three revolves around a man that awakens in a sleeper ship on its way to colonize a distant world. He's been living in a dream world, preparing him for arrival at their destination and his roll as a teacher for the young colonists. Unfortunately, the ship he awakens to is far from is destination, badly damaged, and full of dangerous constructs that may or may not want him dead.
He has only moments before he's running for his life, attempting to survive in the malfunctioning ship with only an enigmatic young girl and later, some hasty journals from previous inhabitants to help him figure out what's going wrong.
This is a great little book that Bear has filled it with unease and uncertainty. I really don't want to go into much, as the joy of this book is actually the reading and discovering. I highly recommend this one for any fan of old school hard science fiction.
